A note from the owner.
Chase Simms is sole proprietor of Gray Cap Technologies, a groundbreaking information technology services company. Gray Cap provides the services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.
Born on Aug. 2, 1976, Chase grew up in the small town of Shepherdsville, KY. He attended the local public elementary school and later, Shepherdsville Middle School. There, at age 11 he discovered his interest in computers and began programming his own games on a TRS-80 given to him by his grandmother.
Months after graduating from Bullitt Central High School, Chase joined the U.S. Army. After graduating Basic Training at Fort Knox, KY and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benjamin Harrison as a double honor graduate, he served three years at Fort Benning, GA. While at Fort Benning he was primarily responsible for automating his unit's personnel center. He was selected as Soldier of the Quarter of the Infantry Training Brigade. He also found time to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Troy State University with an Associates degree in Business Administration. Shortly before leaving Fort Benning, Chase again graduated as an Honor Graduate from the Primary Leadership Development Course and was immediately promoted to Sergeant.
After leaving Fort Benning, Chase spent three years working with NATO in Verona Italy. This was where he received his Top Secret Security Clearance. While in Italy he again transitioned his unit from a paper office to a fully automated model of efficiency. His efforts lowered the staffing requirements by 50%. He also received his first exposure to Unix when he transitioned their legacy systems to a newer Unix system. He designed databases to house the unique data of a multi-national unit and taught the other personnel to use them. While living in a small village in Italy, he also took time to enjoy Europe and visited Austria, France, Germany, Poland, and Slovakia. Most importantly, immersion in these foreign cultures taught him to view problems from different perspectives and the art of evaluating multiple valid interpretations to find the all around best solution.
After his service in the military, Chase began working as a Systems Administrator for Publisher's Printing. He migrated their Windows NT environment of 800 user accounts, 1,000 computers, and 200 servers to a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain structure. Implemented and maintained thirty six terabytes of EMC Clariion storage. Phased out and migrated a large Novell infrastructure to MS Windows. He also found time to graduate from McKendree College again as Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in Computer Information Systems.
Since founding Gray Cap Technologies Chase has supported clients in every facet of IT operations. He has installed the network infrastructure including internet connection, firewall, and switches. He has installed, configured and maintained domain controllers, DNS, WINS, DHCP, or other required servers. Extensively performed network clean-up services such as virus and spyware removal. He has even conducted data recovery and computer forensics services after an intrusion. And Implemented preventive measures for viruses, spyware, and intrusions. In short, he has provided his clients with a complete line of support.
